Design of the Rwanda Nautical Series - Santa Maria 2017 coin
This first edition silver coin is characterised by its beautiful design featuring the flagship of the Christopher Columbus fleet – the Santa Maria. This ship sailed on his voyage in 1492 where he made the ‘discovery’ of America. The coin depicts the ship sailing over the waves and is accompanied by smaller images of a compass and navigational instruments. This silver coin has been issued as Rwandan legal tender and therefore represents a nominal value of 50 Rwandan francs.
