The 1/4 Troy ounce Krugerrand, also known as the Golden Rand, is a gold bullion coin that has been minted since 1980. The smaller denomination Krugerrand coins where introduced after the huge success of the Troy ounce gold Krugerrands in 1967. The coin takes its name from the former South African president, Paul Kruger. The Rand is the official name for the South African currency.

The 1/4 Troy ounce Krugerrand is an affordable way for many investors to own physical gold. The Krugerrand was the first gold coin that was specially minted as an investment currency. It was also the first coin in the world to contain exactly one Troy ounce (31,1 grams) of gold.
