The U.S. Mint introduced the American Eagle to the market in 1986. The 1/4 gold American Eagle coins have a purity of 921.7 gold. Unique to the American Eagle is the fact that its gold must be derived from American soil only which makes the American Eagle coin a pure American product. The gold American Eagle contains 91.67% gold, 3% silver and 5.33% copper. The coins are produced in such a way that each tiny particle contains exactly the same amount of gold.
