First gold bullion coin
The Krugerrand was the first gold investment coin to contain exactly one ounce of gold. The 1/10 troy ounce coin has been minted on behalf of the South African government since 1980. The Krugerrand has a gold content of 22 carats (0.9167).
Alloyed gold
A special feature of the Krugerrand, including the 1/10 Troy ounce edition, is that the coins have no nominal value. Krugerrands are also famed for their specific red-gold colouring, which is achieved because of the alloy of gold and copper.
